[We sang this song on opening day of the North Carolina Legislature’s Special Session, when its extreme right wing, which holds a veto-proof  majority, once again failed to draw new maps to undo what the Supreme Court declared to be their unconstitutional gerrymandering of our election districts.]

Today’s the day our legislators take their seats;
Thought that they were being so discreet,
Drawing up new maps designed to split our votes,
But they’re the same old trash, as we all know.

They say that they’re working for democracy,

They know they’d be defeated if voting were fair,
So they rig the maps so voters haven’t a prayer.
