America, Don’t Give In to Despair!

Tune: Oh Beautiful For Spacious Skies
Date Written or Updated: 06/29/26

Oh beautiful for spacious skies,

for mountains, hills, and plains.

This song is to a-pol-o-gize for our ill-gotten gains!

Our white ancestors stole this land from those already here,

displacing and enslaving them out of ignorance and fear.

That ignorance and fear are still widespread a-cross this land.

The slow headway we were making was built on shifting sand.

We must dis-pel the central myth of a nat‘ral hier-ar-chy.

There’s no such thing, and freedom rings only in democracy!

Because all living beings are so interdependent,

there is no being near or far to whom knees should be bent!

Racis-m is just a tool and cap‘tal-is-m too.

They’re lies told by the bullies to exploit both me and you.

The truth is clear. All life is dear, and ev‘ry-one must share

the wealth and beauty of this land in ways both just and fair!

America, America, don’t give in to despair!

Don’t listen to bully Billionaires! (long pause)

very slow->    Build a new system that’s fair!
