Newly Revised Lyrics for No Kings Day
by Vicki Ryder (2025)
Once old King George ruled us from England,
With tarrifs and taxes on tea;
But the people stood up and resisted
And dumped his tea into the sea.
Now there’s a new king in the White House,
And he doesn’t care what we say;
But we have some news for our president:
Monarchy’s simply passé!
CHORUS 1:
When-ever tyrants reign
And try to ignore their constituents,
They’ll learn, by George,
The power of our influence.
They think they can stifle our freedoms,
And think they’re above the law,
But no matter how crooked or wealthy,
They can’t shout “you’re fired” no more.
We still have a tripartite system;
Checks and balances still on the books;
So we still have a say in what matters,
And we’re tired of liars and crooks.
CHORUS 2:
We’ll resist with all our might!
The power belongs to the people, we cry!
We’ll spell it out for them now:
D-E-M-O-C-R-A-C-Y!
We still have the right to speak freely,
And they can’t take that freedom from us;
Our right to dissent we hold sacred,
And we won’t be thrown under the bus.
We’re gonna take back our power,
’Cause the First Amendment still stands.
The power belongs to the people,
And united in power we stand!
REPEAT CHORUS 2
