Fair Trade Dreidel

Lyrics by: Kathy Miner
Gaggle: Raging Grannies of Madison & Dane County WI
Tune: I Have a Little Dreidel – composed 1896; in the public domain
Date Written or Updated: 12/01/2024

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: “Tchotchkes” (2nd stanza) = “chotch-keys”.  Song should be lively and bouncy!

I’m sick of spending money
On things that have no heart
I’d rather give my dollars
To makers and their art!

CHORUS: Oh, fair trade, fair trade, fair trade
A better kind of gift
Oh, fair trade, fair trade, fair trade
Gives everyone a lift!

Commercial toys and tchotchkes
Are not worth what we spend
But when we buy from crafters
We all win in the end!

CHORUS

So look for fair trade items
For every holiday
Your family will love ’em
And proudly you can say:

CHORUS
