Preface: Inspired by a quote from Jason Stanley
“The targeting of non-citizens is only really a way to normalize the targeting of everybody.” Nov 15, 2025, on the Velshi show, MSNBC.
1. I’ve grown accustomed to disgrace
The daily horrors that I see
I’ve grown accustomed to the news
Scrubbed clean of the abuse
The loss
Of con-stitu-tional rights
Just seems like rehash to me now
How can I really take it in
I was a protest regular at every action and event
Now I just shout loudly at the TV
when I vent
I’ve grown accustomed to the grift
The incoherent tweets
Accustomed to disgrace
2. I’m just so numb to all the hate
The MAGA hats and Nazi signs
Erasing history from our lives
The immigrants and tribes
Our kids
Not taught
The battles we fought
Anyone who isn’t lily-white
Who love and worship differently
The xenophobic racist orders
And the quackery fake cures
Harassing and investigating
anyone who cares to stand up to the felon POTUS
And stand for all our allies
Accustomed to the hate
3. I’ve grown accustomed to the fear
The outright banning of the truth
Those that speak up are cancelled out
So we must sing and shout
We risk
Arrest
But-can-we-rest?
So many have just disappeared
Trump has now stoked our greatest fear
I dread some MAGA “patriot” will likely recognize my face
But if I leave, who else will brave the storm… and take my place…
I’ve grown accustomed to the threats
McCarthy era trials
Accustomed to the fear
