Our Constitution

[This song was re-written in the Spring of 2025 for a rally of students and faculty protesting the suppression of dissent and Academic Freedom on US college and university  campuses.]

We’re here to mourn the Constitution,
’Cause we’re not usin’ it no more!
Our liberties have all been swept aside
Now that we’ve got a new em-per-or.
Our freedoms are quickly disappearing,
Our Civil Rights about to fall,
But we won’t go down without a fight.
Our rights are worth defending…
So, we’re gonna show them we stand tall!

We treasure our Academic Freedoms,
The right to protest as we please;
The right to think and speak and have no fear
Of ICE or the campus police;
The right of our faculty to teach us
A hist’ry that isn’t full of lies.
We won’t be silent, won’t shut up,
We’ll sing out for our freedoms –
Yes, we’re gonna show them we stand tall!

No more immigrant abductions,
Mahmoud Khalil must be set free!
No more banning books or censorship,
And no more fired faculty!
It’s our patriotic duty
To dissent when our government is wrong.
So, we won’t let them trash our rights
Or trample on our freedoms –
We’re gonna show them we stand tall!
Yes, we’re in it to win it one and all!
