Ten years ago, young Michael Brown,
Eighteen years old when they shot him down.
Then Corey Jones, and young Sean Bell,
And Sandra Bland, we remember well….
Tamir Rice was just a boy,
Aiyana Jones, Rekia Boyd,
Yvette Smith, and Maya Hall,
And Kendra James, we remember all.
We say their names and cry in pain,
To see it happen once again.
Now Sonya Massey, forever stilled
By cops with guns feelin’ free to kill.
She called for help but no help came,
Shot dead by cops who have no shame.
And tho’ our hair has now turned gray
We sing for those we’ve lost today.
’Tho beaten, jailed, and hosed and gassed,
We won’t go back to the Jim Crow past.
So on we struggle, march and sing:
“Let justice reign; let freedom ring.”
